Earthblog
Notes from the DeskJuly 4, 2026
Welcome to the New EarthBlog

Stories begin long before the first page. They grow from questions, observations, imagined worlds, lived experiences, and the small details that refuse to be forgotten.

EarthBlog is where I’ll share some of that journey.

I’m Dan H. Lawrence, an author, educator, and lifelong librarian. Curiosity has guided much of my life and work. It has led me into libraries, classrooms, leadership, unfamiliar places, and the imagined worlds of my fiction. It continues to shape the stories I write and the questions I bring to them.

My work crosses genres and audiences. I write imaginative fiction for middle-grade and young adult readers, along with reflective nonfiction about leadership, institutions, change, and the responsibilities we carry toward one another. Across these different forms, I return to many of the same concerns: identity, belonging, resilience, ethical leadership, and the ways people learn to live within systems they did not create.

A Place Behind the Books

EarthBlog is the journal of that work.

Here, I’ll share the stories behind my books, the ideas taking shape around them, and the experiences that continue to influence my writing. Some entries will explore the worlds and characters of Earthlog and The Logistical Edge. Others will follow works in progress, newly published short stories, questions about craft, or reflections that begin somewhere beyond the writing desk.

You may find:

  • Notes from the writing and revision process
  • Character and world-building insights
  • Updates on books, stories, and works in progress
  • Reflections on creativity, education, leadership, travel, and place
  • Resources for readers, families, educators, librarians, and book groups
  • Links to longer essays and work published elsewhere

EarthBlog will grow alongside the books. It will hold finished ideas, developing questions, glimpses behind the scenes, and occasional discoveries that do not yet have another home.

Stories, Questions, and Connection

I believe stories help us notice what ordinary life teaches us to overlook. They let us enter another person’s experience, examine the forces shaping a community, and imagine choices beyond the ones we have inherited.

That possibility sits at the center of my writing.

Sometimes it appears through an eleven-year-old trying to understand an alien classmate. Sometimes it emerges through a leader facing a painful institutional decision. Sometimes it begins with a place, a memory, or a question that keeps returning.

EarthBlog is where those paths can meet.

Whether you arrived as a reader, educator, librarian, writer, science-fiction fan, or curious passerby, I’m glad you found your way here. Look around, follow what interests you, and return whenever you’re ready.

There will always be another story taking shape.

Dan H. Lawrence
